One of the best things that can happen in the life of a person is to have a chance to travel. This can be an enjoyable learning experience. However, if there is one thing that is holding most people back from getting to the airport and booking a flight to anywhere is the cost of travelling. In order to answer this need, you can now travel without worrying about your expenses with great travel deals.
Use the internet or go out and find a travel agent who will assist you. Either way, you can be able to find a good deal. Through the internet, things can be easier and they can be faster. The effort that you have to put into your search need not be much as you can do it while sitting in your favorite couch at home.

You get to choose from a lot of websites or travel agencies which give offers for travel. If you have a lot of choices, you will be able to find one that will suit your needs well. Each can offer a different service with a different deal so, you are sure that there can be one which will be perfect for what you are looking for in travel deals.

Learn to check out famous websites. There can be nothing better than making your transactions with a big company or one that is well known because of their good service. But, you can still visit websites by small companies. They might be able to give you cheaper deals. You just need to make sure that you can trust the agency that you are dealing with.

Before the date you plan to travel, subscribe to newsletters or make it a point to follow updates regarding the services and promotions that these travel agencies provide from time to time. Once you are able to find a very good deal, you might not want to let go of that. This is because these deals can run out fast or a offered only for a limited amount of time.

Also, compare each deal with the other. This will allow you to find the best possible one. Make sure that you know about the specifications of your package. You should ask your travel agent about these specifications including information on what are not included.

If you know what you do not have the capacity, you can prepare yourself ahead of time. This will also be a way for you to know what you can expect.

Book your flights as early as possible. This can give you the opportunity to save more and pay less than if you are to buy your tickets at the last minute. The best travel deals are those that can provide you with a lot of opportunities for a reasonable price.

Travelling with peace of mind will mean to be safe and secure. This can also mean that you only spend a small amount for such a great enjoyment that you are having. This can be possible with the help of travel packages.

To plan your travel well, you need to decide on what you want to include in your travel package. There can be those that only have basic arrangements or there can be those that offer a complete package.

For the basic arrangement, you can have the usual services taken care of. This will include transportation and accommodation or hotel bookings. This can be for you if you want to save even more and not anymore invest on other things that you may not need.

The complete travel packages will include those that will also take care of your leisure time. This can include travel to scenic places in the area. Also, your meals and snacks can be taken care of. This can make you feel more like a king. But, one thing that can make people step back from getting is service is that it can be significantly more expensive than getting a basic package.

An escorted tour may also be possible. Determine if you will really need this kind of service as it can cost you a lot more.

Make sure that you clarify with your travel agent the details of the package that you availed of. This is important so that you will know what to expect and you will also know what you will not get.

To be able to find good travel agents which offer good deals, you can try and ask for recommendations from people you know and have used the services of a certain agency. If you can, look for feedback from the work of the agency. An unbiased feedback is the best that you can receive. Get this from other people and not from the agency itself as they may filter the feedback that they say they are getting.

Research the travel packages that agencies offer and compare every one of them. After you have done this, you can have a clear picture of the offerings that they can give you with their prices.

List those which you think are good enough if you can’t decide on a single one. After some time, you may be able to think differently and it might be easier for you to eliminate those that are not actually that good.

The best travel packages may just be around the corner. But, you need to have a little patience and determination for you to endure the wait if there still aren’t promos for good packages for travel.

Below is an excerpt taken from todayonline.com:

While a record number of visitors spent a record sum of money in Singapore last year(2010), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said yesterday it is expecting a slower pace of growth this year (2011).

The Republic met its target in international visitor arrivals with 11.6 million visitors last year(2010) and surpassed its tourism receipts forecast with $18.8 billion collected. The latter includes expenditure at the integrated resorts, which opened last year, underscoring their role as industry game-changers.

Receipts from sightseeing and entertainment in particular – which includes money spent in the casinos – grew a jaw-dropping 1,834 per cent from the previous year to hit $4 billion.

Numbers for tourism expenditure excluding receipts from the IRs are not available due to commercial sensitivity and the challenge of segregating IR and non-IR expenditure.

STB chief executive Aw Kah Peng stressed tourism’s “broad-based” growth last year, noting that shopping, accommodation and dining receipts also saw double-digit percentage increases.

The STB will announce this year’s tourism forecasts on March 22. While growth should be good, “we cannot expect every year to be an exceptional year”, said Ms Aw at a media briefing yesterday.

CIMB Research economist Song Seng Wun told MediaCorp a 6- to 8-per-cent growth in visitor arrivals this year is “achievable”. The 20-per-cent spike in visitor arrivals last year was partly due to Singapore coming “from a low base” as visitor arrivals had fallen in both 2008 and 2009, he said.

The Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa integrated resorts have likely spurred the jump in Indonesian and Malaysian tourists and induced a longer stay in Singapore, he said.

While Singapore is not the only country reporting record visitor numbers, Mr Song noted that its official figures “under-state the actual number of visitors who came by buses, coaches and private cars across the Causeway”. The STB does not track land arrivals from Malaysia.

Last year’s outstanding report card was tempered by expectations for this year. Two issues that might dampen tourism growth were raised yesterday: Rising hotel room rates and higher costs in hiring foreign workers.

Average hotel occupancy was 86 per cent last year, despite 23 new hotels opening, and the average room rate growing 12 per cent to $212. Asked if Singapore might become too costly a destination, Ms Aw said delivering value to visitors was more important. “There will be a whole range of different customers, and customers will pay according to whether they see value in the product,” she said.

Rising hotel room rates may prove prohibitive for lower-end travellers, noted Mr Robert Khoo, chief executive of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS). But it is part of making Singapore a quality destination.

“I think we have to realise, sooner or later, Singapore being such a small country and having lots of space constraints, we have to come to a day when our tourist arrival numbers cannot be growing endlessly,” he said.

On the challenge of attracting more locals to the tourism and hospitality sectors, in the face of costlier foreign labour, STB’s Ms Aw said jobs could be redesigned and customised to get more people interested.

Mr Song expects the labour crunch to have minimal impact on tourism growth but said businesses have to adapt as the Government pushes productivity and reduces dependency on foreign workers. Wages could get more competitive, he said.

It is a well established fact that eating and shopping are often recognized as the national pastimes in Singapore. Singaporeans are spoilt for choices when it comes to eating and visitors to Singapore have never failed to be amazed by the extensively selection available. It is not the national pastime for nothing, Singapore has a population of around 5 million and these 5 million people are served by over 6,500 restaurants, 4,000 food courts, cafes and coffee shops, as well as over 17,000 food stalls.

The variety available will stumped you. With the many races, nationalities and cultures in Singapore comes with a huge selection of food available. Many of the cultures also have a history of affordable, ready-to-eat food. This could be due to Singapore’s history of immigration, as most immigrants were male and lived in dormitory-style housing, preparing meals are difficult.

In the good old days, you can find food stalls along streets operated by Chinese, Malays and Indians, providing a wide range of choices to anyone who is interested. Malays were good with fruits; Indians were good with cakes and different kinds of nuts and Chinese with a mixture of all sorts. Malays and Chinese almost always carry their wares on a stick, balanced on their shoulder, with loads suspended at both ends. Indians generally carry their wares in a try, balanced on their head. The most interesting would probably the Chinese. They carry “cookshops” along with them; it was literally restaurants on the move. They will suspend on one side of the stick a box which contains a small fire and small copper cauldron for soup, while at the other of the stick, they will carry a load of rice, vermicelli, cakes, jellies and condiments.

It was also fast-food-on-foot, food was served within a short notice. It was said a substantial meal of three to four dishes costs only 3 cents and locals swear by the great tasting food served by these hawkers. With the modernization of Singapore, these forms of hawking came to a close for hygiene purposes. Many of these kinds of stalls were moved into hawker or food centres or coffee shops, and you cannot find such operations anymore.
At coffee shops you can find hot and cold beverages sold. Breakfast was usually coffee or tea with boiled eggs, and toasted bread. During lunch, the permanent stalls inside the coffee shops will start serving all sorts of local delicacies, providing the very first generation of fast food in Singapore. Unlike many cities around the world, where to big eateries are usually restaurants; you can get food of excellent quality and at cheap prices from these hawkers.

There are over 120 hawker centres in Singapore, and lots of coffee shops still operate. In the past decade, there was the emergence of food courts, or air-conditioned coffee shops. The food courts are much larger than their coffee-shop counterparts and offer a wider range of food stalls. It got popular as places were brightly lighted and was commonly fully air-conditioned, providing consumers with a comfortable environment while enjoying their food. In the food courts, there are free seating arrangements, so you can choose to sit anywhere you please, not necessary near to the stall you are ordering food from.

Business minded Singaporeans have also brought the concept of food courts to other countries, offering Singapore’s version of Chinese, Indian and Malay food. Similar food court settings can now be found in countries as far as some major cities in China, offering Singapore’s local food to the people overseas. Even Chinese in China would find dishes like char kway teow (fried rice noodles), chicken rice and noodle soup which are commonly known in Singapore as Chinese food, different from their traditional Chinese food.

Orchard road is not only a fantastic place for shopping, it is also a place to watch some interesting street-side busking. There were quite a number of people hawking their wares, from selling tissues papers to ice-creams which were quite common in Orchard Road. You may caught sight of an old woman selling quite unconventional items on Orchard road: packets of Milo and some other dry snacks laid out neatly on a mat. It seems that these were her only possessions left that she wanted to sell to earn some bucks for a living.

Some days, there were other buskers like a blind man playing real soothing music, earning living from donations of passers by.

If I am not mistaken, what the old man was performing was “Kung Fu ball” and before he made an appearances and caught attention of passers-by, I have read somewhere in the newspapers that he has been practicing his craft in a park somewhere in the island. Having perfected his skills, he has come here to perform and earn a living.

While there were teenagers performing some stunts in Orchard road on the streets for fun and earn some pocket monies, from what I observe, most of the older and physically-challenged personnel have come to Orchard road to sell items and food, perform antics, music or some skills under the hot sun to earn a living. If given a choice, at their age, would they want to brave and endure the bristling hot sun, extreme humidity and trade every ounce of their remaining strength at their ripe own age everyday at Orchard road?

Tourists may welcome this aspect of Orchard road which presents a even more unique side of Singapore. Another place commonly visited by tourists and where street busking is rife is Bencoolen Street, the stretch of pavement leading from Fu Lu Shou complex to OG and Fortune shopping centre at Bugis. There, the stuntmen are mostly from China, and there are even more interesting acts daily. I have caught some stuntmen bringing in snakes before, promising a miracle cure to the onlookers, who were made of uncles and aunties in their fifties to seventies. There, the stunt, as befitting the theme of Waterloo Street is more orient-centric.

Anyway, I welcome these unique street busking aside to the hundreds of shopping centres Singapore now boasts. There would be even more shopping centres coming up, at heartlands come later this year. For example, Bedok will soon have a brand new shopping mall called Bedok Point.
